Magical Mondays

There are those times in life when you decide to do something on the spur of the moment, and it results in magical moments.

One such moment took place yesterday, when a friend and I decided to take a trip to Box Beach with the intention of climbing over the rocks to Fingal. Now this is not an easy journey when the tide is high, so if you are considering doing the same, choose low tide, but still expect a bit of a climb over the rocks. A certain level of fitness is required, and the landscape tends to change from one week to the next, so you really do need to navigate this area at your own risk. There are also some quite sharp oyster shells in the rock pools which can give you a nasty cut if you are not careful.

Now the safety talk is out of the way, I'll continue with the story!

Once we had navigated over the rocks, we were met with a beautiful landscape filled with pockets of crystal clear rock pools of various shapes and sizes, as well as mini waterfalls cascading over the rocks. Always the photographer, and never without my camera, I saw an epic photo opportunity!

Ever the good sport, my friend agreed to jump in the rock pools and lay beneath the waterfalls for what turned out to be some amazing photos.

But the story doesn't end there. The ocean can be your friend or foe when it comes to photography and I certainly experienced her wrath that day. Poised on top of a rock, well out of the way of the surging swell (or so I thought), a rogue wave almost completely washed over me. Fortunately, my friend was a safe distance from the huge gush of water that entered the rock pools.

Luckily, I managed to stand my ground against the formidable spray and stay upright. My camera got wet, however it is waterproof (I think).

Lesson learned - never turn your back on the ocean. She is fierce, beautiful, wild and free, with a spirit not unlike my friend in the photos.

We laughed, we learned. The experience made us feel alive, recharging our souls ready for the next adventure.
