It's Time To Love The Skin I'm In

Meet Kerryann, a vibrant and beautiful woman full of life, with a kindness and sincerity I felt immediately upon meeting her.

When I initially asked Kerryann why she wanted to take part in this body image photoshoot, she told me, "mental health is important. I've been body shamed a lot in my life, it's time to love the skin I'm in."

What a great attitude!

This is Kerryann's story.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I am 50 and proud. A small business owner of eight years caretaking prestige holiday accommodation alongside my partner Aaron. We are also foster carers of Aaron's niece Tahlia. I have a 30 year old career minded daughter Jessica, who resides on the Gold Coast :)

Do you have any insecurities about your body?

Being raised in a Dutch home we were taught never to be ashamed of our bodies, so I was lucky that I never suffered body image issues at home :)

However, growing up at school I was bullied. Being a late bloomer I had other girls my age sniggering. It was only then I started to feel awkward about my undeveloped body.

If you could write a note to your younger self today, what advice would you give her?

If I could write a note to my younger self, it would be to never let the opinion of others allow you to stop loving yourself :)

What do you like most about yourself?

I love my free spirit; I relish in keeping my friends happy; loyalty is a big thing for me; and being myself completely around others :)

Have you ever taken part in a naked or part naked photoshoot before?

Doing this photoshoot with Saffron is something I never imagined myself doing, but when the opportunity arose, I felt it was time as I was struggling with menopause, body changes, sweats and moods lol. Doing this shoot allowed me to love myself again, whilst carrying a muddled mind of what am I to do now that I've reached 50 and felt undesirable.

Are you comfortable with nudity or did it take a lot of courage for you?

I'm comfortable with nudity as I was raised that way, but doing a shoot with close friends was definitely a first for me and my friends.

How does it feel to see yourself naked in these photos?

After seeing pics I was in awe of what Saffron captured in us. It was so liberating and freeing. The photos are beautiful and it's a moment in my life I will never ever forget.

What would you say to other women thinking of taking part in a photoshoot?

I encourage all women young and old to try this experience. You come away with a spring in your step, and confidence lifted to a high. I encourage all women to do this, and I will gladly advocate this body image movement.
